S1E14 - S01E014: Somebody's Watching "TR-33"

Transcript
Speaker A:

Gather your sword and board and get ready for adventure, because it's time for pain campaign. Three, two, one. Let's roll. We welcome you back to our unmitigated disaster of a d and D campaign with friends. We ask the question of what happens when we come out of coming of age summer camp with d and D and the dice of fate. Well, we're gonna find that out here. Let's get started. From the murky bottom of time before time, following a rare mushroom instead of stone, we have Mike playing gold or Firebeard, the honest to goodness dwarven druid who's old enough for a beard and knows how to use the shileleh.

Speaker B:

That's me. Hi, everybody.

Speaker A:

When this warforce lays its hands upon thee, you better hope for some divine intervention, because wooden metal still has pain and emotion, especially when there's a little seagull flying by. Mike Levine is TR 33, the war forge Paladin.

Speaker C:

What's up, everybody?

Speaker A:

When tracking is needed across a path that seems lost or an arrow needs to find its target that seems too far away, we look no further than Bridget playing bellus, our tiefling ranger who hates plans, loves adventure, and who'd rather pull out our bow than engage in pointless conversation.

Speaker D:

Hi.

Speaker A:

Hi. And I'm Michael Hite, off key and rated rock as always, I play seven, the bard. But it's not about me. I'm going to pass it off. Liam, take us away.

Speaker C:

All right. Would you like to remain? You maintain all your intelligence, charisma and wisdom. Would you like to maintain this form for now or back?

Speaker B:

Oh, sure. I have no reason to change facts.

Speaker A:

I just want to rest in Britain. Maybe you could, like, rest in british culture.

Speaker C:

I'm going to assume that you're going to maybe pass the book. Anyone else to actually open and hold?

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah. My legs don't open.

Speaker C:

So who's grabbing the book?

Speaker A:

You wanna grab it?

Speaker D:

No. Can you grab it?

Speaker A:

Do you wanna pet him while you're there?

Speaker C:

No.

Speaker B:

Are you pointing at Levine? Very hesitantly, just like.

Speaker A:

I think. Levine by the tree.

Speaker C:

Tree's grabbing it? Yeah.

Speaker D:

Carefully.

Speaker A:

Oh, my God. I'm waiting for tree to get so excited that he grabs it, rips it.

Speaker D:

In half and stabs it.

Speaker C:

The book starts, like, not going away, but it starts, like, floating and opens up to a page. And so on the front of this is the scavenger hunt with the numbers.

Speaker D:

So we have that.

Speaker C:

On the back is the page that it opens up to.

Speaker A:

Whoa.

Speaker D:

Is it still silenced?

Speaker C:

As you grab this? The silence does fall oh, gosh, you.

Speaker A:

Guys, I don't know for much longer.

Speaker D:

I've been screaming for hours.

Speaker A:

Guys, I have so much to tell you.

Speaker C:

As if, like, the voice is right next to you. But the dragonborn's not in the same room. He goes. Contractually, I have to let you speak this part out loud.

Speaker A:

Don't. Thanks. Wait, Levine. Our tree? Yeah. If you can mouth the last word to us, just don't say it. Wait, does it matter that there's a fourth book flying around that we haven't grabbed yet?

Speaker C:

It's just flying around now. It stopped.

Speaker D:

Whatever. It doesn't matter.

Speaker C:

You are gonna come back. It was just trying to help the founders. Go to.

Speaker D:

Do you want a popcorn read, too? Or you could pass it.

Speaker C:

Wait, am I reading this whole thing right now?

Speaker A:

You know, if you want me to read a tree, you could pass it right to me. It's fine.

Speaker D:

Can I just read the first sentence?

Speaker C:

You know what? I'll just pass it.

Speaker A:

Cause I'll mess this up. I never met.

Speaker D:

I never say.

Speaker A:

I never mess up reads. Guys. Okay, here we go. So good at my voice. Back. Oh, man. A bard in the voice is like a tree with no leaves. Oh, felt so good. I missed you, voice. In an era shadowed by turmoil and strife, three valiant leaders. Syria Dornforge. A paladin of resolute virtue. Is that melorin? Maeloron. Maloran. Sorry. Silver cloak. A wizard with deep arcane mastery and thornal green mantle, a druid deeply connected to the earth's ancient forces, stood against a formidable alliance of demon lords that threatened the realm of the living. Orcus. Orcus grazet. And the fiery Ornozuki Ornoski formed.

Speaker C:

That's kind of. I was like, whoever says it first is the way it's gonna pronounce.

Speaker A:

He sounds like he's. Maybe he works a little. Italy. The fire.

Speaker C:

No, no, no.

Speaker A:

It's g for borough.

Speaker C:

Oh, man, this is good.

Speaker A:

This is the most. This is the most disastrous campaign. I loved it. Okay, so the fiery or Moz G formed this dark pact, each bringing their unique brand of terror and chaos. The decisive confrontation unfolded on what is now known as Camp Shimmer Lake. Previously the goblin village. How much? Royce?

Speaker C:

The view village.

Speaker A:

Amazing. The goblin village of Glimmerdell, which was obliterated in the conflict. This site, chosen for its vulnerability to fiendish incursions, became the battleground where reality itself was tested. And then we came along. Facing such overwhelming evil, Syria, milorn and Thornau employed a strategy of divide and conquer, which is what we're not doing. Unable to destroy these formidable beings outright, they succeeded in banishing each demon lord to isolated dimensional rifts and arcane prisons, cutting off their influences from the world. This camp is awesome. Orcus, known for his nec. Necro. Wow. Necromantic might. And the dreaded wand of Orcus. He's named after his wand, saw his weapon shattered in the climactic moments of the battle. The fragments were meticulously hidden across Naruth island, their exact locations lost to time to ensure that the wand's malevolent power could never be welded again. I remember reading a child's book about something similar. Grazet, a master of manipulation and deceit, lost his weapons in the chaos of war. Their whereabouts remain unknown, buried under layers of history and subterfuge, leaving a lingering question mark over the tools of such a potent adversary. Ornoschi, known for his fiery devastation and ability to scorch the very earth, was similarly contained in his infernal power, quelled under layers of magical wards in earth. To prepare future generations for the possibility of such conflict re emerging, the founders established Camp Shimmer Lake Malorange. Silvercloak, in his later years, penned the Founder's codex, part memoir, part manual, intended to guide future guardians in the maintenance of these seals and the stewardship of peace.

Speaker C:

Yeah, it's only open to page two, by the way.

Speaker B:

Look.

Speaker D:

We literally opened the COVID Can I see it?

Speaker A:

Yeah. Because I'm sure that my voice didn't really. Yep. Okay. A nose cheese sounds wonderful. No.

Speaker B:

Are we sure that the COVID doesn't say. Don't panic. Enlarge.

Speaker A:

Yes. Do you have a towel? Wow. Can we turn? Are the pages numbered? The pages are numbered also. Are there chapter numbers as well?

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I wonder if chapters one. That doesn't make sense. Why would you go 15310?

Speaker D:

He thinks I'm sure.

Speaker C:

It's like, everyone can make me quick.

Speaker A:

If he gets the first word on the page and then the fifth word.

Speaker D:

It'S probably, like, chapter one, paragraph five, sentence three, word one.

Speaker A:

You know what? A nose. She would do that.

Speaker D:

That's my assumption, yeah. What am I doing? Intelligence.

Speaker A:

Sorry. Six.

Speaker D:

All right, well, I'm just gonna throw everything in garbage today.

Speaker A:

That one, too. Yep.

Speaker C:

Dean.

Speaker D:

Five.

Speaker A:

Is that a nose cheat? Oh, hold on. Intelligence plus 00:16. 16. Oh, man. Okay, let's make it a point not to talk in a bad italian accent.

Speaker C:

This entire episode starts, like, overthinking. This is like, oh, okay, we're gonna chapter this, and then we're gonna analyze this and then tree's like, hey guys, why don't we just. There are.

Speaker A:

Why did his voice go up eight octaves? That was incredible. Hey guys.

Speaker C:

Hey guys. There are seven page on this first page or the second page. And if you look at the first number of the code of each of the numbers and you all have the text as well if you need it.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker C:

So you have the cipher and the text message.

Speaker D:

Oh, so para. Like this is where 123-4567.

Speaker C:

And there are seven paragraphs on the page that you currently just read.

Speaker A:

Wait, so the first word in the first paragraph, the fifth word in it. Was that you?

Speaker C:

That was me.

Speaker A:

How do you do that? My shoe.

Speaker C:

By accident.

Speaker A:

Tree has shoes. I'm learning so much about you. This episode.

Speaker C:

Like the tree complex, it's like coming.

Speaker B:

Out one of the graph line. Word, letter.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker A:

You think so? Yes, I do. Oh, I like that.

Speaker D:

I'm 100% positive, actually.

Speaker B:

Yes, I do.

Speaker A:

So there I was in a cave, trapped. And all I had was this exact book.

Speaker D:

Third word. Then first letter for the first one, it's 1351.

Speaker A:

So. Yes.

Speaker D:

Yeah. So first paragraph. 1234-5123. 1st letter a.

Speaker A:

A. Okay. 2nd. 12257. Tree. I think she thinks I'm helpful.

Speaker C:

I'm still trying to figure out the code.

Speaker D:

R. R. Okay, is that right? R. R. Tree's still looking.

Speaker A:

Three, two, one, 1 cc. Okay, you got four. 3210. Four, three.

Speaker D:

I'm stressed out.

Speaker A:

Hold on. 210.

Speaker B:

I thought we said seven before.

Speaker A:

I realized that my microphone was set for your old microphone. I changed the memory. Class. H. You said h. It probably is. 5311. Four.

Speaker D:

What is it?

Speaker A:

5311. Four.

Speaker C:

Speak at you for a second.

Speaker A:

Yo, that's good. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Er, just arch. Oh, wait. One, two. 3456-712-3456. Okay. And then R. Archery.

Speaker B:

Archery.

Speaker D:

That's my thing.

Speaker A:

Oh, you know, what do you think golder should do this one.

Speaker C:

So as you say the word archery out loud, three bronze pieces appear in the air in front of you.

Speaker B:

Those are very abstract looking.

Speaker D:

You know, honestly, they're cut perfectly. That's what I was thinking.

Speaker C:

Hi. Are you here when I. When I discussed the cutting?

Speaker A:

No, no, not at all. I was busy. Probably upstairs. Gave some.

Speaker B:

And of course, all I can think of is, you know, Kapla.

Speaker A:

Oh, you did it.

Speaker C:

Also, these are not the scale. These are much smaller in the. In the.

Speaker D:

They're like teeny.

Speaker A:

Yeah, if they're we.

Speaker C:

But I enlarged it for real life. Figuring out for IRL. Yeah. So don't forget you still have more on the scavenger hunt.

Speaker A:

We do. We do. Oh, wait.

Speaker C:

So I'm liking the scavenger hunt thing. This is cool.

Speaker A:

This is fun.

Speaker C:

Yeah. So, Belle. Cause you were someone to note this. You did notice that on your way to Coliseum, to the right hand side, near where some of the cabins were, you did notice an archery.

Speaker D:

I wanna go there.

Speaker A:

Oh, that's fun.

Speaker C:

I'll just give everyone a moment to see if they need to think about anything. But if not, we can head to the archery range. If that's where you intend to go next.

Speaker A:

If you need this anymore.

Speaker D:

I don't know. I was gonna leave it there. I don't think so. Cause the next part just says, assemble the pieces you gain from the puzzle. From the puzzle you solve. Not in vain. Each part is a clue. So I'm assuming.

Speaker A:

Oh, so each part. That's what that puzzle is.

Speaker C:

A clue. You think?

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Be funny if you just made, like, shadow puzzles.

Speaker D:

Look, guys, the fact that it's a three piece puzzle and it's.

Speaker C:

You're missing seven pieces.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Like, we're missing pieces here. There's gotta be more pieces.

Speaker C:

Yes, there's more pieces.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Okay, so for now.

Speaker C:

So we need more.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker D:

To the archery.

Speaker A:

To the archery.

Speaker C:

All right, so you. Exactly.

Speaker A:

Engine's a turbine. Turbine to speed.

Speaker C:

The dragonborn's still there. He's like, my name's Torrin Flametom, by the way.

Speaker A:

Torrin Flametime.

Speaker C:

Asking.

Speaker A:

We would love to ask, but we couldn't speak.

Speaker D:

Can I actually do something before, like, as we're walking out, can I just. No, nothing bad. Can I just look to see if there's any books that say anything about, like, dreams?

Speaker C:

Yes, you can. We have many books on dreams. What kind of dreams are you looking for?

Speaker D:

Like, dreams where maybe people that are dead come talk to you in them.

Speaker C:

We do have a book on that. I will have it delivered to your cabin.

Speaker D:

Thanks.

Speaker A:

Can I also search for a book on soup?

Speaker C:

You mean the one I just had filed you couldn't ask me for before?

Speaker A:

I didn't want to be rude.

Speaker D:

I don't. Don't.

Speaker C:

Don't go, Thorgon. Ramsley is a great cook, so I suppose it's only natural. So we'll also have that delivered to your dad.

Speaker A:

Thank you.

Speaker C:

Well, can I. Can I ask for more?

Speaker D:

I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I did this.

Speaker C:

Like, everybody else is doing it. Maybe what I'd see.

Speaker A:

Just go out. No, it's falling. Oh, okay.

Speaker C:

Can you hear me?

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

Gotcha. Okay.

Speaker A:

Yeah. Actually tilted a little bit towards pointing more. A little bit more to you.

Speaker C:

Like a tv star.

Speaker A:

So I like, hey, Bill, if they have archery on.

Speaker C:

Yuck. Paladins. Do you have a book on Paladins?

Speaker D:

A book on pigs?

Speaker A:

Pigs. I was.

Speaker C:

Oh, please.

Speaker A:

I smells like you, too.

Speaker C:

I'm almost certain your cabin is not large enough to contain all the books on paladins we have.

Speaker A:

Okay, you start with a.

Speaker C:

Do you have a book on warforged piggies?

Speaker A:

Pigs. Warforged piggies. You think that there's a tree stone pig running around that I will have to look into?

Speaker C:

There has ever been a workworks cake?

Speaker A:

You went from.

Speaker D:

How do you go from, like, I'll.

Speaker A:

Take all your books and start with a. Actually, I changed my mind.

Speaker C:

Well, listen, guys, I'm confused. What? I mean, like, I'm half tree here.

Speaker B:

I'm a paladin.

Speaker A:

I'm a war forged. This is.

Speaker C:

I keep having dreams with a pig.

Speaker A:

If I ever get to bring my.

Speaker D:

Dream book down, it'll be fine. All right, let's move on.

Speaker A:

If I ever get to perform in that coffee house back in town, I'm gonna call that group the war forged. Pigs.

Speaker D:

That's our name.

Speaker A:

The warforged pig.

Speaker C:

That should be a group.

Speaker D:

There we go. The war.

Speaker C:

Oh, did you guys. I. This. This is bad on me. Did you guys end up picking a group name that we got yesterday?

Speaker A:

We're known by many different.

Speaker D:

We renamed the boat again. I think that was.

Speaker C:

A group name. Yet still.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

We'll have a look back into the. The episode, but I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty sure.

Speaker D:

I don't think we did.

Speaker C:

I'm pretty sure. Yeah, we waylaid it again.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

Okay, so is warforged pigs the actual thing you want to.

Speaker A:

You don't want to be known as the warforged Krusty skeletons.

Speaker C:

I like the warforged piggies.

Speaker D:

The warfort piggies with an ie at the end.

Speaker A:

Sounds terrifying. People will know us days ahead of time before we reach the town.

Speaker D:

We just oink at people instead of, like, barking at people like weird kids do.

Speaker A:

Instead of, like, wait, you wanna. You're gonna fight, dance, you're gonna snap story.

Speaker D:

Wait, what?

Speaker A:

I think they're gonna take us really seriously. I'll tell you what. Let's try to win this thing first. Let's see where it takes us.

Speaker C:

Okay.

Speaker D:

Ease.

Speaker A:

Ease.

Speaker D:

Thank you.

Speaker C:

Get it right with ease. I'll have to look into that. Okay. Thank you.

Speaker A:

Borrow my book on soup?

Speaker C:

Go ahead. He looks like all three says go ahead.

Speaker B:

I'm still a spider, so I don't exactly.

Speaker A:

Oh, sorry. He's having trouble speaking.

Speaker C:

Go ahead.

Speaker A:

Oh, he understands you. I think you want to book a mushrooms. Mushrooms or webs, the dark arts of mushrooms.

Speaker C:

Your cabin is not large enough. Do it contain all the books we have on mushrooms?

Speaker A:

Is there a field guide to picking and finding mushrooms in the local regions?

Speaker C:

What was that?

Speaker B:

Deadly mushrooms.

Speaker C:

I think we might have something for you. Thank you.

Speaker B:

Wow.

Speaker A:

You know, you know somebody for four days and you learn something new every time you meet dogfish.

Speaker C:

So we have more forged. Piggy has one book. Potentially.

Speaker D:

Exactly.

Speaker C:

Definitely have deadly mushrooms and dreams from the dead. Okay.

Speaker A:

It's a nice combination. Our party.

Speaker C:

By the way, I did not forget about you. If we made it to nighttime tonight. Dreams. Dream stuff. Awesome.

Speaker A:

Okay, I'll get soup. All right.

Speaker D:

Nighttime soup. Dream soup.

Speaker C:

So with mushrooms.

Speaker A:

That's a good name, too. That'd be our first album. Dream soup.

Speaker C:

Okay. I can't take you seriously with that big goal.

Speaker A:

It keeps leaking them at the top. It's really frustrating.

Speaker D:

Because it's not meant to, actually.

Speaker C:

How much was that cup, by the way?

Speaker A:

Oh, $9.99. But if you fill that up for a dollar, 60.

Speaker C:

Wow.

Speaker A:

Yeah. See how it's good?

Speaker D:

What is it, like, two liters more than that?

Speaker A:

2.9.

Speaker C:

Wow.

Speaker A:

Just as a part that gets dicey.

Speaker D:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A:

Come on, start doing.

Speaker D:

That's borderline impressive, asmr.

Speaker A:

It does as. I'm sorry, this is disgusting sounding.

Speaker D:

The fact that you still pour for that long in that cup is, like, a little sad.

Speaker C:

I know these big old cubs. You all exit the library and start walking towards the forest to your east or to the relative east of the camp, rather. So you head towards the forest and you see a parting in the trees where, like a natural archery range is. You see, down a lane are four targets for archery targets, one all next to each other in a row. The first target has three arrows sticking out of it, each embedded in a different ring of the target. The other three targets are empty, except for someone taking an arrow out of the last one. There is a line etched to the ground a distance away from the targets, marking like a shooting line. And besides, the line is a longbow and a quiver full of arrows. So down the range, you see a person take out of the fourth target, an arrow, and they turn around, and they're human. They have slicked back black hair. Their clothes are exceptionally tailored, high society, very high quality. And he starts walking closer. He's like Bellis is that you?

Speaker A:

I don't know, is it?

Speaker C:

Do I reckon so.

Speaker A:

Oh, it's a guy's son.

Speaker C:

You recognize us to be Cunin Kronby? Gleas Kronby, his son. The same one from the brewery that you all helped save.

Speaker D:

What was his name again?

Speaker C:

Cunin. Oh, that's his name. But it's me. He goes, it's me. K qnin K. I believe. It's good to see you. I heard you helped my father out of a spot a while back.

Speaker D:

Yeah, he is welcome.

Speaker A:

Well, I just call out, you're welcome too.

Speaker B:

Bellas doesn't remember you.

Speaker A:

Sorry, dude, just.

Speaker C:

Just get lost.

Speaker A:

Oh, God.

Speaker D:

Kick leaves.

Speaker C:

He like. He, like, kind of, like pulls you aside, and he's like, listen, I know our fathers, while competitive rivals are acquainted. Enough if you want, I'm sure the camp will allow this to happen. If you don't want to be with this riff raff and come join my group, we're sure to win first prize and we can fall out with your father.

Speaker A:

True.

Speaker C:

I say, healed up a necklace. Like, you know, I. You know, I'm in constant contact. My father, he can help out with whatever tree if you come work for us instead.

Speaker A:

Should we make him like a leaf and.

Speaker C:

Oh, yeah, you can all hear this, but he's like, trying to do it, like, as, like an aside. Okay.

Speaker A:

Oh, you're subtle.

Speaker C:

As that's happening. I get in between him and Bella, and I say, yo, make like a tree and leave.

Speaker A:

Good, hard.

Speaker C:

Stay still.

Speaker D:

I like. I like push, not push, but I, like, pop my head on corner of him and I'm like, hey, just come.

Speaker C:

Here for a moment.

Speaker D:

Just hold up. Tree. Love ya. I get it, I get it. I do appreciate it.

Speaker C:

Did I do switch.

Speaker D:

You're okay, you're okay. You're good, you're good. Come here.

Speaker A:

Come here.

Speaker D:

1 second. I, like, pull him over, like, to the side, like, away, and I'm like, listen, like, I know these guys are like, you know, they're a little weird. They're a little riff raff. Y'all can't hear me. They're a little riff raffy, but, like, they're kind of cool, don't they? Look, I mean, he's a tree.

Speaker C:

Are you serious?

Speaker D:

Listen, this is how I was able to get here. I have to at least act like I'm with them.

Speaker C:

If you're not willing to part with them, then that means you're not willing to be working for us and helping us out. And that clearly shows your true colors. Otherwise, you would have made more of an effort.

Speaker D:

What'd you use in your hair? Grease you found off the ground? You're ugly.

Speaker A:

Wait, can I pill girl? Can I shift my appearance to look just like him and say deadly serious?

Speaker C:

Do you want to?

Speaker D:

Yes, I know.

Speaker C:

Go ahead and describe it.

Speaker A:

I read back for a second, turn back around, and I look exactly like our dear friend here, giving Bella the hard time. And I said, we're deadly serious.

Speaker C:

And I just to emphasize that I go behind him and be like this. Like I make myself like a big tree. He glances around, gives like the most like fake smile you can think of. Very well, we don't want your tiefling hellspawn kind anyway. And he like gives like the most insulting bow with like a waving hand. And he says good luck. And like with good luck, the air kind of like reverberates. He has just cast a spell on you.

Speaker D:

On me?

Speaker C:

Yeah. And he leaves as he's leaving. You see him pocketing a couple bronze pieces in his pockets as well.

Speaker D:

Well, as he's steal from you can as he does.

Speaker C:

You know that's not your pieces. He had his own pieces that he got from the archer.

Speaker A:

No, no, I don't. You know, I don't really care that.

Speaker C:

As he's leaving, can I like summon my ham real quick to like flick him away? Your mate? Yeah, my magent to kind of like slap him in the back of the head? Um, he will, as he's like walking away. The Matrix only has like such fast movement, he'll just naturally outpace it as he's just walking away.

Speaker D:

Can I? Cuz I don't like him now, and he's annoying me. I want to like know where he goes. So can I flick the ring that I have into his pocket?

Speaker C:

Um, you can, yes. So here's, it's gonna be, it's gonna be a high dc for you.

Speaker A:

That's right.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker C:

Give me 1 second.

Speaker A:

Can I go back to being seven?

Speaker C:

Yeah, cool. Good move both. Why don't, while I'm looking this up, why don't all of you discuss the fact that seven just turned into another person.

Speaker D:

Well, we knew that you could do that, right? Oh, we didn't know. I didn't even do that on the, on the ship guys didn't.

Speaker C:

I don't know what he just did.

Speaker A:

But it was cool. Do you like my magic tricks?

Speaker B:

Oh wait, no, he didn't want to talk to the.

Speaker C:

Yeah, when you talk to the cat, he made it look like a disguise, not like a full transformation.

Speaker A:

Look at you, buddy. So you like my disguises?

Speaker D:

Where'd you learn how to do that?

Speaker C:

Yeah, well, that was really cool, man.

Speaker A:

So, I guys have tell you something. Let me keep it kind of secret. I'm actually a changeling.

Speaker D:

Yeah, no, we got. We got that.

Speaker A:

So that was not just a changeling. It is so you see how he.

Speaker D:

Just changed.

Speaker A:

Like that, but with a link to it? It sounds like a lizard. Do you have, like, a tail I could. No, I can't do that. It's an extra appendage, but, uh, it's limited. It's limited. What can I tell you? No lizards. So, I, uh. I usually keep this form. I gotta keep the way that I look. But every so often, um, Val and I had these conversations with the family would keep this stuff secret, but every so often, I just can't help myself. So when the moat. When the. When the opportunity does strike and we need it, I can make myself look like other things. I can't change my armor. I can't change things like that. But I can change the way I look.

Speaker B:

We could definitely use this for evil instead of.

Speaker A:

Sounds good. Sounds good.

Speaker B:

I wish I had something cool. We're gonna go, and we're gonna commit some kind of petty crime with eyewitnesses.

Speaker C:

And then, like, run around the corner.

Speaker B:

And change him to somebody else.

Speaker A:

Tree. Turn the other way.

Speaker B:

Gold or.

Speaker A:

That's a genius idea. Bella, what do you think?

Speaker D:

I actually don't want to throw my ring in his pocket. I lied to you.

Speaker A:

Can we do. Can I do an arcana check to check belfout?

Speaker D:

But before he, like, walks away, turns away, I want to use thomaturji and change my eyes red, as if, like, he just pissed me off. So, like, we're gonna have a problem.

Speaker C:

Sure. He keeps just walking, though. He didn't.

Speaker A:

This thing's, like, no more room to. Where is it? We would Arcana check on Bellus 13. Is there anything about what that guy did to her?

Speaker D:

If he may be not able to shoot an arrow, I'm gonna kill someone.

Speaker A:

I'm also gonna cast maybe Liam the person. Do you have any sort of magic cleansing or something we could do to Bellus?

Speaker B:

I don't think so.

Speaker A:

All right, in that case, I'm gonna cast. I'm gonna look at Bella. I'm gonna wink. I'm not sure what I'm winking, but I'm gonna hold the two hands, tell her that she rocks for too hard for one hand, and I'm gonna cast bardic inspiration on Bella. You got a 14 arcana check.

Speaker C:

On a 14 arcana check. You know, she's been magically affected, but you don't know how.

Speaker A:

You've been magically affected, and I don't know how.

Speaker D:

Thanks.

Speaker C:

I will let someone else check, and they can also help that person, but I'll say seven. You're. You're done checking?

Speaker A:

I'm done checking, guys.

Speaker C:

Okay, so let me see here.

Speaker A:

But I can still talk, so that's good.

Speaker C:

So Arcana is an intelligence skill.

Speaker D:

I think your microphones haunted.

Speaker A:

Oh, cool.

Speaker D:

There are microphones making the sound, but that.

Speaker A:

Tick, tick, tick.

Speaker D:

Is that what this was as it was going up?

Speaker B:

It was.

Speaker D:

Oh, was it really making this?

Speaker C:

Oh, Mandy. Oh.

Speaker A:

All right, all right. Just stop moving.

Speaker B:

I'm assuming if Labine's gonna try to check, I'll cast guidance on him so he gets an extra one.

Speaker A:

I see.

Speaker C:

Okay.

Speaker A:

He cast stuff on you.

Speaker C:

I will do it.

Speaker B:

I shall check.

Speaker A:

Tree. Did you notice that you got some help from Goldor?

Speaker C:

I did. I will say you're casting guidance, and I'm assuming you're gonna give him the help action as well.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

So you can roll with advantage, and you can choose to add a D four after it if you'd like.

Speaker B:

Wow.

Speaker C:

Okay, so what am I rolling? D 20 is your arcana. Okay, don't say that.

Speaker A:

Gold or never helps you.

Speaker C:

Arcana is plus zero.

Speaker A:

Okay, well, what number are we adding to?

Speaker D:

00:20S though, right?

Speaker A:

Cause you're rolling with true.

Speaker D:

And take the higher number.

Speaker A:

He's like, I have seven bags. I have one D twenty. Good enough.

Speaker B:

You can add a.

Speaker C:

Actually found all my G 20s. Thank you.

Speaker A:

So that's three.

Speaker C:

One, two, roll.

Speaker A:

Oh, man.

Speaker C:

Oh, man. Wait till I do it again.

Speaker B:

That's why you have six bags of dice.

Speaker C:

You roll two. Okay. I rolled a six, right?

Speaker A:

What? 16, right?

Speaker D:

16.

Speaker A:

What's the six with the dot?

Speaker C:

That's a six, right? Or is it a nine?

Speaker A:

Well, it depends for the dot.

Speaker D:

If it's a circle. If it's near the circle, it's a six. If it's near the line, it's a nine.

Speaker B:

The dot goes on the bottom.

Speaker C:

Yeah. Regardless, roll your advantage anyway.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Roll it a second time.

Speaker A:

Don't worry, Bellas. You're fine. Whatever he did to you is probably. He probably has part of inspiration. I'll shoot nobody with an arrow and.

Speaker C:

Be like, I think there's something wrong with you.

Speaker D:

Can I do an arcana check on myself?

Speaker B:

To be fair, her eyes are red.

Speaker A:

Sheree's like, wait, what, um. What are you, are you, is there anything about your, your race that you could not be charmed or anything like that or. No, no. Okay, same here. I can't do much. I could come up with our outlandish disguises, though. Seriously.

Speaker C:

Did you get one?

Speaker A:

Oh, no, we think he blessed you. Or instead.

Speaker D:

I see my reflection, I'm.

Speaker A:

Like, whoa, I bet you feel back. He probably blessed you, right?

Speaker C:

You think that cunin was trying to cast, what's it called? Hold on, let me party conservation.

Speaker A:

Just gonna.

Speaker C:

Oh, give me a second.

Speaker A:

Coming up. He cast me. Nice for you. I think he cast marksmanship on you. Dissonant whisper.

Speaker C:

Oh, he tried casting on you. You think he tried casting friends?

Speaker A:

Oh, great. Bringing men, I guess you guys, Natasha said he's laughter at you. Just giggling.

Speaker D:

He's trying to be my friend, guys.

Speaker A:

He's nice, isn't he?

Speaker D:

He was so nice.

Speaker A:

Wait, doesn't that wear off?

Speaker D:

Once you like, it wears off and, like, lets you know that you cast your.

Speaker C:

That's what you think he casts?

Speaker D:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

Great.

Speaker C:

However, you feel no more friendly towards him. So you think he fell that cast that he felt?

Speaker D:

Yeah. Okay. My guys started to cast friends on me. He started to make me his friend.

Speaker A:

I don't know, he wasn't very nice.

Speaker D:

I hate that guy and his dad.

Speaker A:

Insult him and his dad.

Speaker C:

Okay, so again, before you down the archery range, across the line are four targets. The first target has 3 hours sticking out of it, each embedded in a different ring of the target. And next to it are three empty targets. And behind the shooting line is a bow and a quiver full of arrows. Belf, you said you would like to make an investigation.

Speaker D:

Well, I just want to know, like, I don't know, investigation, insight, whatever. Like, why is only the first target shot at, not the other ones? Like, did they, like, was there, like, holes in the other targets? Is there a reason nobody was shooting at them?

Speaker C:

There are, like, some, like, usage holes in the other things, but, like, very light. Like, you can't really tell any particular pattern at the moment.

Speaker A:

Oh, did you find out what rings they shot into for the first one or no?

Speaker D:

Well, it was one in each ring, but I was trying to figure out.

Speaker C:

If there's not one in each ring in the first target, there's one in the outermost ring, there's one in the third ring, and there's one in the bullseye. So there's four rings plus the bullseye for five zones total.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker A:

You're not tired of the mike can.

Speaker C:

I use divine sense? You can on Bella.

Speaker A:

She's a tiefling. What do you think you're gonna get?

Speaker C:

Well, it says you can detect good and evil until the end of your neck turn. You can sense anything affected by a hollow spell.

Speaker A:

That's pretty good. Let me do it on our lip. When you're done. Colder is gonna be like, oh, him there. Good evil feeling for this guy.

Speaker C:

Well, hopefully we can find out whatever his cast in the meantime. Bell, if you want to roll an investigation, check for me.

Speaker A:

Throw in that dice.

Speaker D:

Oh, thank God. Jesus Christ. 18 plus three.

Speaker A:

Oh, that's better.

Speaker D:

21.

Speaker A:

That's better than one.

Speaker C:

What was your 21 on investigation? Wait, what?

Speaker D:

Yeah. No, no, no. I'm like, thank God. Instead of the fours that I've been rolling.

Speaker A:

Reminds me of our no cheat, huh? Or no cheese roll.

Speaker C:

Sometimes you're doing divine sense, you said?

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

Looks like you have one more left. This will be your last one. I do. Hasn't actually. Evil. Okay. The presence of strong evil, whole branches on your senses like a noxious motor as an action. Celestial feed, or undead feet of you. You know the type so you can cast it, I would say, on, like, your natural intelligence score. You would say, like, it's a small chance you'll be able to detect something, but you can still track. Your natural passive intelligence lets you know that you're not likely to get anything. So should I waste it? All right, so never mind then. Okay. Sorry.

Speaker A:

Sorry.

Speaker C:

No, because.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah, sorry about that.

Speaker C:

Yeah, so then I won't do it. Okay, so, belf, with a 21 on investigation, you, like, go up and down this frame to see what you can find. And you notice on the back of all the targets are numbers. You notice on the far left target where the arrows are in it that the number 220 is behind it. And then on the next three targets are 100. 9142. Hundred 60. I'll repeat that.

Speaker A:

Yeah, 220.

Speaker C:

So 220.

Speaker D:

I have a book.

Speaker A:

Oh, that's good too. My iPad is 4%.

Speaker C:

Let me know when you're ready.

Speaker A:

Wait.

Speaker C:

Yeah, left to right. 200 and 2191. Hundred and 4260.

Speaker A:

And which one had the three target? The three arrows in it? The left one. The 221.

Speaker C:

220 is all the way to the left. That has the arrows. Yes.

Speaker A:

And what are the position of the arrows in that one?

Speaker C:

In the bullseye, in the third ring and the outer ring. So there's. So there's an outer ring, a second ring, a third ring, a fourth ring, and a bullseye.

Speaker A:

So one, two, three.

Speaker C:

So five zones. Bullseye being one and then four rings.

Speaker A:

Okay, so in that one, there's a bullseye and a third bullseye, third and outer ring. Okay.

Speaker D:

What I know what all the, like, number rings.

Speaker C:

Yeah. Make me a.

Speaker A:

Like it was a score. You mean like if it was, like a history? Yes. Oh, a history check.

Speaker C:

You can, if you want to a.

Speaker A:

Normal one, you can do normal 15.

Speaker C:

Yeah. So on a. On your check, you recall that a bullseye is usually worth 150 points.

Speaker A:

Oh, all right, so 150, which means.

Speaker D:

It when I know what the other.

Speaker A:

One divided by two, like, each ring.

Speaker C:

Going, um, I'll say that, you know that there's an uneven distribution of the other rings. Like, not the other rings will not be worth the same.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker C:

You'll know that the ones on the outside are worth the least. With the bullseye being 150.

Speaker A:

You think it's 15 and 20. Oh, he's at 150.

Speaker C:

Bullseye is 150.

Speaker A:

Oh, so 150 leaves 70. You don't think it's so 70 remaining. We now know that the bullseye is worth 150. Right.

Speaker D:

I don't like math.

Speaker A:

Yeah, this is fun. Can you tell us about the other, the other three bullseye target mark things, what arrows are in the other?

Speaker C:

There's no other arrows in the other ones.

Speaker A:

Oh, none of them?

Speaker C:

No.

Speaker A:

Can we. Can I. Can we do an investigation to look at to see if there's holes from other arrows, or is it just full of arrow holes?

Speaker C:

It's like. Yeah, you can't make out any pattern.

Speaker D:

Okay, what was the other? There was one in the bullseye, one in the.

Speaker C:

One in the bullseye.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

One in the third ring, and one in the outer ring, which is five.

Speaker A:

Right. The fifth ring.

Speaker C:

If you want to show me your diagram just to confirm that you have the correct drawing, I can confirm that for you. Yes.

Speaker A:

Oh, wow. What the.

Speaker D:

Did you draw?

Speaker C:

Yes.

Speaker A:

So. Oh, wait. Did you say. Did you say the second? Oh, never mind. That was really tough.

Speaker D:

220. -100.

Speaker A:

5170. 77.

Speaker C:

You were correct in your musings with the rest of the party that, yeah, there were 70 points unaccounted for after the bullseye.

Speaker A:

Yes. Seven does meth.

Speaker D:

I'll shoot things, y'all fine.

Speaker A:

I'm not gonna talk about myself in third person anymore. I promised.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker A:

I'm just trying to figure out if we can sort of, like, put our brains together and come up with a plan on what Bella should shoot, if.

Speaker D:

Bella's can shoot anything. Cause Lord knows.

Speaker C:

Well, if Bella.

Speaker A:

Hold on a second. If this goes badly, how far can your magic hand go? Because maybe Bella stands behind the line. You use mage hands, and then you bring that to the right spot.

Speaker C:

Can we do that? You can try.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

Or I just kind of just float my hand over there and wait for it to get across, because I think you.

Speaker A:

If I had to guess, like, the stuff that they leave on the ground. Yeah, we probably have to start with those things. There's nothing saying that. What happens mid air with the wind and everything else could change.

Speaker D:

Can I just try and shoot? There's that too narrow at one of them.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

Okay. I want to shoot one that's, like, not. That doesn't have anything in it right now.

Speaker A:

Hold on a second.

Speaker C:

Okay.

Speaker A:

What was the second one? Was the second 1130?

Speaker C:

What? The second one. The number on the bag is 190.

Speaker A:

Oh, 190. Why don't you try to get a bullseye in the second one?

Speaker D:

That's what I'm saying. Yeah.

Speaker A:

Yeah, go for a bullseye.

Speaker C:

All right. Go ahead and try to.

Speaker D:

Is it just like a regular attack?

Speaker A:

Like, there's 40 left?

Speaker D:

That was almost bad.

Speaker A:

You have a bardic inspiration.

Speaker D:

I don't think. I don't. I don't think I need disadvantage. Oh, okay.

Speaker A:

Oh, that's what we got going on now. This is wonderful. Disadvantage. Okay.

Speaker D:

I rolled a nat 20 and an 18, so I still have an 1825.

Speaker C:

I'm trying to in my brain. So, yeah, if I say with disadvantage, I guess the night the 18 shoots supersedes in that 20.

Speaker D:

Yeah, because it's. It's the one that. Yeah, but it's still a 25, so.

Speaker C:

Even with an 18, it's a 25, though. Okay, so even with 20, you exactly. You. Not exactly, but you more than adequately strike a bullseye, and you see a little, like, fireworks. 150.

Speaker A:

A great arcade. So natural, it's a one. No, no, you're casting with this. So 150 to 90 is 40. So we have to somehow clean up 40 points.

Speaker D:

Do I just shoot random ones?

Speaker A:

No, I don't.

Speaker D:

Like what happens if we go over? That's what I'm saying.

Speaker A:

Yeah. Then you probably. Then we probably light a tree.

Speaker D:

Or can I just, like, go out and take them out and then try again?

Speaker A:

I don't know. Wait, so if you get. All right, let's just think about this for a second. If you got. If there was 220 and we need to get 30 less on this one. And it was in position three and position five, you hit the outermost, right. It was the outermost. Right. Like, one of them was the outermost.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Smooth things, like, ten is maybe the lowest it goes well, I don't know. So if. Let's just say hypothetically, it was ten, right? So we're gonna do a little guesswork right now to figure out what the other ones are worth. So maybe if that. If you get 150 from the bullseye, and then what do you think that third one was worth?

Speaker D:

Try and shoot the outside one and see what the number comes up, because chances are it's not gonna be 40.

Speaker A:

Oh, does it come up with. Oh, wait, it. Did it come with a number when.

Speaker D:

She shot, it said 150. So if I shoot the outermost ring, and like I said, the chances are this one's not gonna be 40.

Speaker A:

I think you should. I think you shoot the outer one and then the second outer one.

Speaker D:

Yeah. Okay.

Speaker A:

That's what I think we go for.

Speaker D:

Should I go for the same target or shoot.

Speaker A:

Oh, I have an idea. Go for. Let's try to get this. Go with a. Go with. It was a third one was a 40.

Speaker D:

Pending that, I can shoot it. Yeah.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker C:

Do you need my gutting hand?

Speaker A:

Five with this. Five rows, right?

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Including bullseye?

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

There's four zones, but there's four rings, bullseye being the last. And, like, a dot of a.

Speaker A:

Okay, go for. Why don't try to get for the second. The second. Go to the outside one and go one in what you could choose, and then we can see what numbers we get from them. We've got to make sense of this. So the outer ring. Try to hit the outer ring, and then next we'll try to hit the next one in.

Speaker D:

I'm asking, do I do it on the same one that I just did, or should I go to a different one?

Speaker A:

Oh, it's a good question. You know what? You want to get another bullseye. Another one?

Speaker C:

I say go to another one.

Speaker D:

No, I don't want to get a bullseye. Another one. Because what if we need to figure out what the other numbers are on the other one? We know that a bullseye is 150.

Speaker A:

Okay, so let's try to hit the. Go for the same one.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Go for the outside target. Let's see what happens.

Speaker C:

Okay.

Speaker D:

Okay, so the outside ring on the same target that I was just specifically.

Speaker C:

Aiming for the outside ring.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

Okay.

Speaker D:

Still rolling with a disadvantage.

Speaker A:

There's no other campers watching on, like, directly outside these rings. Right.

Speaker D:

That was actually gonna be a question, was, do we see other people? But, like, nope.

Speaker A:

You actually shoot somebody, like, I'm so sorry.

Speaker D:

I thought. I hope it's that guy, or whatever his name is.

Speaker C:

Go ahead and roll. And then I'm gonna make an aside after you roll. So the scavenger hunt said the groups, like, you know, they were said to you, like, the groups would move in together. That way there's no overlap, but you notice cunin was on his own. You can presume that his group split up against what was asked to do.

Speaker A:

Shocking. Okay.

Speaker C:

1212, and you were aiming for the outer ring. You hit the third ring.

Speaker A:

Is the third ring the same as.

Speaker C:

The first as we were looking at? You hit the third ring, the number shows up, the arrow goes in, starts wobbling, and both arrows are ejected.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Okay. So we don't know the third. It didn't come with a score. It just said piece out.

Speaker C:

I will say little thing. When it went up, over.

Speaker A:

Oh, okay. So we have 150, right? So we had 150. And you hit. Which one did you hit? The third.

Speaker D:

The third.

Speaker A:

The third went to. Brought you to 200.

Speaker D:

More than four.

Speaker A:

It's worth 50. Or we're guessing. Okay. Or. Or worth more than 40. Okay.

Speaker D:

All right.

Speaker A:

I guess you think it's like.

Speaker D:

Well, I mean, everybody else can also hit things. I don't have to be the only one.

Speaker C:

Oh.

Speaker A:

But.

Speaker D:

Okay, there's one other bow I'll try. Clearly, me hitting them, it's not gonna work out all the time, so.

Speaker A:

Oh, wait, hold on a second. Can you catch guidance?

Speaker D:

I don't think it's for attacks. Right, because I'm technically attacking it.

Speaker A:

We're not trying to hurt that little thing. Kicks me on the attacker.

Speaker D:

I'm gonna.

Speaker A:

Kill this target, and I'm gonna take it out on the guy that.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

All right. Wait, so how do I know my attack on the boat actions?

Speaker C:

So the boat is gonna be your dex. It's gonna be essentially a dexterity roll plus your dexterity modifier.

Speaker A:

Oh, so if you're. So since I have the. What do you call that, the bardic insanity of not knowing. Of knowing lots of things would be useless. Does that give me a bonus on that? Because I don't have that skill?

Speaker C:

What does the bardic thing do?

Speaker A:

That's a great question. Thank you.

Speaker C:

So, yes, if you are. If you have jack ball trades, I think you can add your proficiency as well.

Speaker A:

All right, let's do it. I want to shoot.

Speaker C:

Yes. Which target you going? Two, three, or four?

Speaker A:

I guess I'm going to go to the same target that Bella's did, and I'm going to pick up the bow, and I'm going to aim for. We know the third. We know the right we know the.

Speaker D:

Is this right? This one? I cleaned it up. Is that right, or is the arrow.

Speaker A:

In the wrong spot?

Speaker D:

The outside one.

Speaker C:

That is correct, right? Yes.

Speaker A:

Okay, so which one do you think I should shoot? Aim for?

Speaker D:

Okay, so we just shot the third one on accident.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

That has to be more than 40.

Speaker A:

Okay. We're trying to get, we're trying to get 190 right. And we know that 150, right?

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna, after my.

Speaker C:

You can all roll.

Speaker D:

I'm gonna go to the very far target and try and hit the outside ring again.

Speaker C:

And if you guys want to either aim with the same one, or I'm.

Speaker A:

Gonna aim for the second ring, I think. Right, because the third ring is. One.

Speaker D:

Is gonna have to be more than 40.

Speaker A:

Oh. So I need to go. I'm sorry. When I say third, you're counting from the inside out. Right.

Speaker D:

So bullseye. One, two, three.

Speaker A:

So you hit the three. Right. So I should go for the four.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So, so we're saying the 150 plus the fourth is probably what we need. Because if the third one was too much, do we know the fourth, the last, the outer ring, and the bullseye is what we need. I'm going for the outer ring for the same target.

Speaker D:

Okay, so now go for the fourth one in, like the one in.

Speaker A:

Repeating. Yeah. Yeah. So roll can roll. And what is this? What is it? My rolling, son? This is.

Speaker C:

And you can add your proficiency and your deck smiles.

Speaker A:

Wait, so I'm sorry, you explain to me. I'm a little silly here.

Speaker C:

Make a regular dex roll.

Speaker A:

I have the roll.

Speaker C:

Yep.

Speaker A:

Okay. 910. Oh, it's nine.

Speaker C:

Should be 210.

Speaker A:

1112. 13. Oh, it's a saving through. I'm sorry. So I have, for dexterity. I have plus two. There's eleven. What's your proficiency and where's proficiency?

Speaker B:

Should be up toward the top, maybe towards the right a little.

Speaker A:

Is it just. Oh, I see that. Oh, that's, you get plus. So I add to that as well.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So 1011. 1213. 14.

Speaker C:

Okay. With a 14, you get a bullseye.

Speaker A:

Okay. 150.

Speaker C:

And I got a 19. You also get a bullseye. Yeah.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker D:

I'm aiming for the outside ring. And I got.

Speaker C:

So you're specifically aiming for the outside ring.

Speaker D:

No, on the very far.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker D:

And I got 18.

Speaker C:

With an 18. And making a specific aiming thing, like you can also, you hit the outer ring.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker A:

What number showed up?

Speaker C:

No number showed up.

Speaker A:

Oh, this one screwed up.

Speaker C:

Oh.

Speaker A:

Unless they. Unless that combination number. Oh, it can't be. It's 260.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Not high enough. Wait till 260. You need to get another way. 150. Oh, no, you don't. I feel like for a second, I'm like, wait, are these gonna be above 300? You need to get double bulldozed.

Speaker C:

You hit the second target.

Speaker A:

Oh, is that the one that we used before? The first one at.

Speaker C:

I was going for the same target with him, but.

Speaker A:

Oh, no.

Speaker C:

So that if you both hit a boat, it got ejected and sent again. Okay. You have on the fourth target a arrow on the arrow in the outer.

Speaker A:

Ring, and no number showed up. All right. You would try to do it again.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

This time with. With more variety shot.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

All right, so you meant something. This.

Speaker A:

I'm gonna aim again. I'm gonna aim for the bullseye.

Speaker C:

Okay.

Speaker A:

And then. Or should I aim for the outer ring?

Speaker D:

Since I know what that's. We can figure out what that number is.

Speaker A:

Oh, how do I go nine again? All right. Same thing. Was it a 14?

Speaker C:

With a 14 aiming for the outer ring, I'll say you hit the second ring.

Speaker A:

Oh, how is there a number that showed up? This is a very specific combination of. Okay, should I go?

Speaker C:

Should I hit the outer?

Speaker A:

That'd be 40. Oh, no, no, that's. Oh, that's higher. It's like a 50, so it doesn't matter.

Speaker D:

Try and hit the bullseye and see if it stays.

Speaker A:

Okay, here we go. It's too low. It's 190. It's gonna be too much. Six maybe hits dolphin tree. I'm just waiting for a one.

Speaker D:

Okay. I go back to that one, and I try and hit a bullseye.

Speaker C:

Okay.

Speaker A:

The next episode of campaign. We're still rolling.

Speaker D:

14.

Speaker C:

You hit a bullseye.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker C:

All right. Nothing has been ejected.

Speaker D:

Okay. Okay, so wait.

Speaker C:

Damn. So, remember, the second target is 190.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

14.

Speaker D:

And nothing's been ejected.

Speaker C:

Nope.

Speaker D:

And we have one in the bullseye and one in the second.

Speaker C:

Yep.

Speaker A:

Oh, wait, 18. Okay, I rolled an 18. Should I aim for.

Speaker D:

I was gonna say aim for the outside ring and see if they stay.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm gonna 18 and roll for the outside. Oh, I'm sorry. With that. Okay, you get it. Okay.

Speaker C:

And the number pops up. 190.

Speaker D:

Okay. Sorry. Hold on.

Speaker A:

Wow. So the outside is.

Speaker D:

So. So the second ring has to be 30.

Speaker A:

30. And then the outside ring is 1010. And then the next one in is 40.

Speaker D:

No, it would have to be more than 40, because.

Speaker A:

Oh, that's 50 then.

Speaker D:

50.

Speaker A:

Well, it's 150. No, but that was 190.

Speaker D:

Right. So we had 150. So that's 40 left, right?

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

And then we hit the outside ring and I stayed in. And then we hit the second ring and it stayed in. So what, the second ring is 30, 60.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

And then the outside ring is ten.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

Then that would be 40. Hypothetically.

Speaker A:

Do a princess bride style if I'm. And I'm never wrong.

Speaker C:

So I will say with that you are certain that, you know, the outer is ten, the second is 30, and the bullseye is 150.

Speaker D:

Okay. Do we know the third ring? Um, I'm thinking it's 50, but I don't know.

Speaker C:

Uh, you can think it's 50.

Speaker D:

I could think it's 50.

Speaker A:

Thanks, Liam. Could I give her help? Action.

Speaker D:

Think harder. That. That's 50 50. Okay.

Speaker C:

So if you want to make an intelligence check now with advantage after realizing this, you can go for it. About the circles over.

Speaker A:

What does D and D beyond logo look like? Something out of flash gordon.

Speaker D:

Oh, it turned like gold. Right?

Speaker A:

Yeah. I don't know.

Speaker C:

Why would you get.

Speaker D:

What am I doing?

Speaker C:

Yeah. You're not sure? I mean, if anyone else wants to, they want to check if they can.

Speaker A:

Figure out the math here.

Speaker B:

Sorry, an intelligence check?

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Oh, 19 with the main.

Speaker C:

You know, that Bella said before, there's an uneven distribution between the amount of points in each ring. So it was 20 between the first two rings. And then. So it's. If you know, it's an uneven distribution, you know it's not going to be a 20 difference between the next ring and the next ring. Cause you were saying it was 50, and that would have been a 20 point distribution. But we've already had a 20 point difference, so with that, you should be able to figure out the remaining points.

Speaker D:

Should is the key word there.

Speaker A:

Let's go with some arrows and try some homes.

Speaker B:

There's a 20 point difference between the first.

Speaker D:

The first two.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

So it's 1030. We're trying to figure out the third ring, so it's not gonna be 50.

Speaker B:

So 40 points. So a 40 point difference would be 70.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Which is double that. And then an 80 point difference, which is double that would bring us up to one.

Speaker D:

Yes, but that's where one. Yeah, we skipped one numbers after 20.

Speaker B:

I'm sorry.

Speaker C:

You went to 30. You went to 40.

Speaker B:

Oh, 240.

Speaker D:

So it's gonna be a 30 point.

Speaker B:

Yeah, 30.1. I tried, like, double.

Speaker D:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then a 40 point difference, which would be a hundred, and then a 50 point difference would be 100 rings.

Speaker B:

That I was thinking.

Speaker D:

So, yeah, there's one. There was one?

Speaker A:

Yeah. You were, like, thinking of, like, the spaces between the lines, right?

Speaker D:

I. 150.

Speaker C:

Now that you know all the values, you figured it out. If you want to make me, we'll say a group bow shot roll check kind of thing. You can. So essentially, you roll your two d twenty s. Everyone else rolls a dexterity check. You can read your proficiency, Mike.

Speaker A:

Oh, so how do we do this?

Speaker C:

We roll a dexterity.

Speaker A:

So we're rolling straight dexterity check.

Speaker C:

Three out of four of you passed, then you'll.

Speaker D:

I'm also rolling dexterity.

Speaker C:

Or am I rolling your normal row and arrow? Yes.

Speaker D:

My, like, plus seven.

Speaker C:

Yes, exactly.

Speaker A:

So that's standard four. You got 1421.

Speaker C:

Nice. That's 117.

Speaker A:

It's 214. That's that one.

Speaker B:

What one?

Speaker C:

Not if you're aiming for specific parts.

Speaker A:

No. 19 bar to get first.

Speaker C:

Three out of four.

Speaker A:

Sweet.

Speaker C:

So you all work together now that you know the values, to get the rest of the numbers, you hit the 220. There's already 220. You hit the 190, hit the 260. At the end, in the air, by the targets, another piece of paper and some more bronze pieces flash into existence.

Speaker D:

That was so stressful.

Speaker C:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Wait, so this is a really silly question. Can we. Is there any way to see if. Like, to, like, look around to see if we're being watched by anyone?

Speaker C:

Make me project check.

Speaker A:

Can we all do that?

Speaker D:

Like a guy with greasy ass?

Speaker A:

Yeah, like that. Exactly. My rolls are. It's ridiculous. Anybody else want to do a perception check?

Speaker C:

Oh, that 20.

Speaker D:

Oh, that's two. That's two.

Speaker C:

That's two, not 20. Give me 1 second.

Speaker B:

That's right.

Speaker C:

We're just missing one more piece, right?

Speaker A:

It's better than my eleven.

Speaker C:

They say seven pieces.

Speaker D:

We were missing seven pieces. I think it's like a six, but like a freaky circle.

Speaker A:

Nice. Oh, can I. Can I just. While they're doing that, can I do something? Yeah, can I just walk over to the bow and arrow? Can I walk over to this. To the. To the targets, and push the arrows into different spots.

Speaker D:

We'll just take them out.

Speaker A:

Oh, take them out. That's smarter. Just take them out.

Speaker D:

Can I have them? Can I steal them?

Speaker A:

Cool arrows of arcade lights.

Speaker C:

I think she's using them for revenge.

Speaker D:

Stab someone in the greasy hair.

Speaker A:

You and only you plus five degrees.

Speaker C:

Oh, man. Notice off to the side in like, the darkest, like, corner that you could possibly get. But while still having a line of visibility to your group, you see a. I'm trying to think of, like, a medieval metaphor here. But I'm really thinking the size of basketball, so. Yay. Old basketball will say.

Speaker A:

That'S what used to play.

Speaker C:

Leathery green skin, basketball sized thing floating. It has one large eye in the middle, sharpened fangs. And coming from the top of its heads are another few.

Speaker A:

Like, beholders with eyes.

Speaker C:

And when it notices you see it, it zooms away.

Speaker A:

Can you. Can you wink at it like this? There's a beholder at the camp.

Speaker C:

It zooms away. Where does it zoom? Where does it go? Detect good and evil.

Speaker A:

I don't think you should waste that.

Speaker D:

Well, you don't know. He saw it.

Speaker A:

What do you see over there? Tree.

Speaker B:

Gosh.

Speaker A:

Like, how everything's always, I saw a ye olde basketball.

Speaker C:

Let me tell you that.

Speaker A:

And it had eyes.

Speaker C:

I don't know if you said, did anybody else see this?

Speaker A:

Because we didn't.

Speaker C:

There was something with an eyeball, and it was frickin ooh, man.

Speaker A:

I feel like you were seeing your face.

Speaker C:

This is freaking me out of. Oh, I think we should check it out. We should investigate it. What do you think? Are you asking me or the group? I'm asking my group.

Speaker B:

I think we probably have another.

Speaker D:

Let's, like, find the rest of these pieces, and then we'll keep green basketball with eyes in mind.

Speaker C:

But I'm telling you, watching us. Yeah, I was like. I thought I lost them. I was gonna be like, you're gone. I think something's watching us put these pieces together.

Speaker B:

I think we're in a race just saying.

Speaker A:

Oh, no. But I think that whatever that was, I feel like somebody's trying to cheat from us.

Speaker C:

I have an important question for ballet. How long did you think it took you and your entire group to do the archery challenge?

Speaker A:

Three minutes.

Speaker D:

I would say probably, like. Like. Yeah. Like, not 15. I think, like, eight, nine minutes.

Speaker C:

Okay. I think that's a fair assessment between.

Speaker D:

Like, trying to figure out the math and then shooting everything.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker C:

We're shooting pretty good.

Speaker A:

I know. But I feel like I think we have to be better about trying to be more conspicuous with what we're doing. Cause if we're being watched, it could be another team. Could be cheating from us.

Speaker C:

Cool. Good.

Speaker A:

Cool.

Speaker D:

You mean like a team with greasy black hair?

Speaker A:

Greasy, yeah. Greasers. We call them the greasers feet.

Speaker D:

Swim ball.

Speaker A:

Let's call them the greasers piece of paper.

Speaker C:

It says in a circle where elders meet, under canopies where shadows play. Find this grove a natural seat where leaf and bloom hold sway. Does that have something to do with a tree.

Speaker A:

A garden.

Speaker D:

Can you say it again?

Speaker C:

In a circle where elders meet. Circle canopies where shadows play. Find this grove a natural seat. Where a leaf in bloom holds sway.

Speaker B:

So, like a druid circle.

Speaker A:

Just saying.

Speaker D:

Sounds like something you know about.

Speaker A:

Sounds like you're step. Sounds like you're stepping in for this one.

Speaker C:

I like that.

Speaker A:

Stop me, guys, if you know this one. Do they mean an evil circle?

Speaker D:

Freaky circle.

Speaker C:

Notice by the targets there's a wooden sign that says, this way. Once arrow points to, like, back towards where you came. It says back to the center of camp. Another one points to the northwest saying, going to Shimmer Lake. And then deeper into the forest, it says druids Grove.

Speaker A:

Oh, there's a sign.

Speaker D:

I'm not a spider.

Speaker A:

I just think we're looking for a sign for this one.

Speaker C:

Right. So you can say your form for up to an hour. So, yeah, so there are. I'll say there are multiple things that were being what your form is one of the things that was under a timer.

Speaker B:

Gotcha.

Speaker C:

There's a reason why I asked you how long do you think that took? And I would have took your answer as how much time passed.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

Yeah, I figured that.

Speaker A:

I wonder how long you'd be wrong with disadvantage the rest of time.

Speaker D:

Oh, no. I'm gonna find this guy.

Speaker A:

Yeah, don't.

Speaker D:

Don't you worry.

Speaker C:

We're gonna find him till the salmon hurts. Done.

Speaker D:

Gonna find him.

Speaker C:

All right. Anyway, so you follow the path. The trees get closer and closer. It gets darker and darker and dark vision.

Speaker D:

Me too. I can see 90ft.

Speaker A:

I don't.

Speaker C:

And the trees are now not just close, but they meet. And they're forming kind of like a natural wall where the trees kind of bend overhead to form like a high canopy.

Speaker A:

Oh, nice.

Speaker C:

And so inside, like, essentially like this little. What's the word I'm looking for? Clearing. Like, kind of thing. But it's like a darkened druidian circle clearing. You can. In other words, you can head inside of this. And you head inside and you see, like, you hear. And, like, you kind of, like, almost see, like animals and chirps and, like, different noises. Like, it's a very vibrant and lively place. You. Even though it's weird, even though there's no pine trees here, you can, for some reason, definitely, really heavily smell pine. This is why we don't shake our apple. Watch.

Speaker A:

It's a sucka.

Speaker C:

So you enter the grove, and you see in the middle a fire. And on either side of the fire are two piles of wooden. What would everyone like to do?

Speaker A:

Here's the clue again.

Speaker D:

I'm gonna follow his lead.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Go investigate the fire.

Speaker C:

Are you investigating just the fire?

Speaker A:

I investigate the wood piles.

Speaker C:

Yeah, you can.

Speaker B:

I'm gonna take a look for them.

Speaker C:

Just. Just the wood piles. Okay.

Speaker B:

Just the fire. Ooh, I don't notice very much.

Speaker C:

I'll say that. The. The ceiling of this room is around 50ft in height. Yeah.

Speaker A:

I get a 520, not net, 20, not net.

Speaker C:

Okay. So you're checking out the fire.

Speaker A:

I'm looking at the wood and, like, the ground, like, that whole situation. Look to see if there's anything odd about these two piles and the fire.

Speaker C:

Okay, so you're kind of like, wood burns.

Speaker D:

Accurate.

Speaker A:

Tree, come here. No kidding.

Speaker C:

That the wood is different color. You see, like, a darker, blacker wood on the left and a white wood on the right. Right.

Speaker A:

It's like a combination of the two. Make something like combination of, like, different amounts of the.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Or, you know, ratio. Yeah.

Speaker C:

With seven. Saying that. Goldor, you can make me a nature check with advantage. Nature.

Speaker A:

Nature.

Speaker C:

Nature.

Speaker A:

I don't know why we're saying like that. For nature. Nature check.

Speaker C:

On a 15. You recognize this as wood burpens. Drydock setup for a communication system. You look up to confirm. As you look up, you see on the ceiling, like, faintly glowing markings around the canopy opening. You see a variety of shorts and long colored marks going around the circle in different colors. So I'm going to pass out, like.

Speaker A:

A pattern of a smoke. If you send up a puff of smoke from each one of these little.

Speaker C:

And I labeled it because the ink, you know, was the inky. So you notice one section of it to be darker in color, whiter color, and then, like, a blend of the two.

Speaker A:

Oh, does it seem like a ratio of. Huh, that looks like nothing I've ever seen. It's like a musical pattern.

Speaker B:

It does. Is there anything else to, like, to.

Speaker C:

Like, control the flame other than there is nothing there?

Speaker A:

There's like, a long and a short. Like a. Like a. Yeah, like, maybe, like, too short. So you want to try to light up the darker wood and send it up to above the fire.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Toss a piece of the dark colored wood on there and see what happens.

Speaker C:

Okay. You toss a dark colored wood on there. The fire rises a little bit. The smoke becomes a dark black and raises through. And for just a moment, you notice, like, the first of, like, the darkest parts like this. The first long symbol glows and then stops. Because it's only just that mainstream so.

Speaker A:

Now you want to go for another dark one? I know what the direction is, right.

Speaker B:

But I don't know how to make it.

Speaker A:

Short break this week in half, I guess.

Speaker B:

Are the pieces of wood all the same size?

Speaker C:

They're all the same size.

Speaker B:

Break one in half.

Speaker A:

Let's see what happens.

Speaker B:

Break one of the dark pieces in half.

Speaker C:

Sure. You break one in half, you put it on again. The fire rises and there's still just a continuous stream that goes up and it lights the first one up, the first big one, the first long black marking.

Speaker D:

Is there anything on these pieces of wood? Like, are there markings on this wood.

Speaker C:

Or is it just so gold? Or you as a druid, I will say you would just know that druids are known to, like, improvise either with the nature or what they have, they make do with what they have. And so not every tool will be handed to them.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker C:

Like a blanket or something to control.

Speaker A:

Oh, so you think it's not so much the size of the stick, but it's the size of the smoke.

Speaker C:

It's like.

Speaker A:

Do you think those are directions? No, it's not really. Tilt the. Oh, you think it's a direction from where you throw it, like head on versus, like from the sun? No, I'm gonna throw one of the.

Speaker B:

Throw the white ones on and see what happens.

Speaker A:

Like a food who dollar tree starts.

Speaker C:

Screaming, the fire rises, the smoke turns completely white, rises in a continuous stream. Nothing lights up.

Speaker A:

So you did, you did black.

Speaker D:

So do you like maybe half?

Speaker A:

Yeah, I think you're working on.

Speaker D:

I have fire resistance, so I could also like put a piece of wood in and take it out and see if that does anything like that.

Speaker A:

Show off.

Speaker D:

No, like, like to see if it likes stop it and make and like light something.

Speaker A:

Oh, that's pretty smart.

Speaker D:

Like put it in, make it go and then take it out. Put it in fast.

Speaker A:

Let's do that.

Speaker D:

Like, ooh, set her on fire. Yeah, totally.

Speaker A:

Do that fire thing. Bridget.

Speaker C:

Sorry, is that what you're trying to do?

Speaker D:

No, I just suggest it, cuz, like, I'm following his lead because I'm not a druid and he is. I feel like he's gonna know what to do.

Speaker A:

Yeah. Golder, what works so far or what made it light up?

Speaker B:

I don't know. The dark. The dark wood makes it light up, like stuff. The first black long space. So when you say the first black ones, you mean the one here at the top?

Speaker C:

Right there? Yep. Which one? Right there.

Speaker A:

There. So we. Maybe we don't know which direction it goes in. Maybe.

Speaker B:

I'm gonna throw a black one and a white one on together.

Speaker C:

Ooh.

Speaker B:

See what happens.

Speaker A:

Sure.

Speaker C:

As you throw a black and white one on together, you look towards the. What you, like, are seeing as, like, the southern portion of, like, the circle. Yeah. And the two long gray markings light up and then go out.

Speaker D:

The two walls over here.

Speaker A:

Those are gray.

Speaker B:

Yeah, those are gray.

Speaker A:

Okay, so you have black and you have gray and you have white. Yeah.

Speaker C:

Or actually, rather.

Speaker A:

Sorry.

Speaker C:

Only the first one lights up.

Speaker B:

Only the first one lights up.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Only the first one.

Speaker B:

The first one lights up.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Wait, so do you think we're part of the way into the pattern now, or do you think we can start fresh every time?

Speaker B:

No, I think we might start fresh with each one. I think somehow smoke coming out of it is triggering the.

Speaker C:

I'll say. The smoke goes up very fast. Like, it's like. Like you would know. This is like, a druidic communication with, like, the smoke is meant to go fast.

Speaker B:

Yep. I'm trying to figure out how to make a short puff of smoke.

Speaker A:

Like a.

Speaker D:

Well, if I would that make.

Speaker B:

Yeah, yeah, that might do it.

Speaker D:

Like, if I put it in real quick and take it out, it can't hurt.

Speaker A:

Let's try it.

Speaker D:

Like, just literally could hurt.

Speaker C:

To adjudicate this in my mind.

Speaker A:

Hold on a second. You want to mage hand it?

Speaker C:

If we're mage handing it and we're playing baller skates rules, it's gonna die.

Speaker D:

I was gonna say it'll die because.

Speaker C:

It is one hit point.

Speaker A:

Why would the mage hand I.

Speaker D:

It gets fire damage.

Speaker A:

So what if you get half of the stick in and not the whole stick?

Speaker C:

You can try.

Speaker A:

So, like, hold on. If you only put, like, half of.

Speaker D:

It in instead of the whole thing.

Speaker C:

Well, here, you put half and drop.

Speaker B:

The whole thing in.

Speaker C:

Are you talking about, like, holding half of the foot?

Speaker D:

Like, holding half of the.

Speaker C:

You can hold half of it in. You hold half of it in, and the smoke immediately rises as before.

Speaker A:

Okay, so it's not quantity of wood then. No, it might be time that you have it in.

Speaker C:

It's.

Speaker B:

It's the time you have it in. Or there's something you can do to, like.

Speaker A:

Yeah, the smoke.

Speaker B:

I just can't think of what we can do that'll interrupt the smoke.

Speaker A:

What, wet the wood? No, it's gonna put the fire out. Oh, wait. What if you do. What if you increase the white. No, this doesn't change the color of the smoke.

Speaker D:

I have, like, a shirt in my backpack that we could like.

Speaker C:

Yeah, give it a try.

Speaker D:

Yeah, that I could, like, cover real quick and take. I'll try that. Wait, which one is in it? Is it the gray one or the black one? Because right now. Is it the gray one?

Speaker C:

Yeah, right now you have a black and a white burning. Okay, so then it's like a continuous stream.

Speaker B:

So then, like interrupted quickly and set another long stream.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker A:

And then two short ones.

Speaker C:

Okay, so youre trying to go for the gray. The great. Yeah, so you. Because as you first cover it with a shirt, like, it doesn't act like you would expect smoke to act like it doesn't. Like, just spread out. Like it just still continues stream and it stops as it hits the shirt. You don't see the shirt, like, taking damage or anything. It just stops. And as you pull the shirt back, it goes back up. And are you following through or just seeing what happens after that first short.

Speaker B:

Triple, I would continue. That's for two short.

Speaker D:

Okay, so then I do the whole thing.

Speaker C:

That entire bottom row of markings lights up.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker B:

So that I would say chocolate black.

Speaker D:

Would say black.

Speaker B:

Another white.

Speaker C:

So you repeat the process with the shirt and you're going for the gray, black, and white. Yeah. As the full circle lights up, a message appears in the canopy. And three. Sorry, two more pieces fall down.

Speaker A:

Way to go, gold. Nice job, guys.

Speaker C:

All right.

Speaker A:

Way to go, Trey. Go. Seven.

Speaker C:

I passed the pieces.

Speaker A:

Well, that's going to do it. For this episode of campaign. We have so much left to go. See you next time. Campaign is produced by Levine, Orlip, Liam, Bridget and myself, Michael Haidt. Listen to the first part of our camp scavenger hunt and find out why Seven should not be the one reading about hard to pronounce characters! You'll have to listen to find out!

In the Sunfire kingdom of Valdoria, our adventurers attend a relatively mundane school named Pyreglow Preparatory Academy. The land has once again become plagued by creatures, abominations, and other nefarious forces in the wake of the great vanishing, which occurred almost a year ago when all the heroes were rushed off on an assignment and never returned. Ever since, a new generation of heroes have been vying to rise to the call and save the land. The only problem is, they need training.

Wannabe heroes flock to camps and training centers across the land, but none surpassed the famed Camp Shimmer Lake. Our Camp Pain sessions are a bi-weekly Dungeons & Dragons game hosted by Michael Heit from Hey Other Parents, Food & Fury, and Snackzeroth Podcasts. Our unfortunate teens are at a crossroads in this campaign world created by the extraordinary DM Liam, and also stars Bridget, Orlep, and Levine, along with the occasional guest-appearances. Players and Dungeons Masters might say that it's an original disaster of a 5e podcast! Each episode title is a pun reference to a real song or band. If you are looking for a serious adventure, this might not be for you. Otherwise, buckle in for laughs and excitement for our adventures.

Camp Pain is produced by Liam, Bridget, Orlep, Levine and me, Michael Heit. I edit and mix our show. Our intro voice recording was done by the one and only Koltrane. Music used in this podcast was sourced from Fanatical’s 2023 Music Bundle featuring Dark Fantasy Studio. My son Ethan is our official Cartographer for maps used in our sessions. We are using Dungeons & Dragons 5E for this season of Camp Pain on DnD Beyond. In this Podcast we are a mix of friends who are here to have some fun and do some D&D our way. Some of us are seasoned players and others are a little new to the game. We hope you will enjoy hopping along as we set off on this adventure together.
